LINKEDIN 101⁣

Alright guys, my newest hobby is hanging out on Linkedin. Whether you’re a pre-PA, PA-S, or PA-C, it’s not a bad idea to give your Linkedin some TLC (or create one if you haven't already).⁣

𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄⁣

Use the same name that you have on your resume. Add PA-S/PA-C to the end of your name. Your headline should reflect your progress in school (pre-PA student, PA student, physician assistant, etc.). ⁣

𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐒𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎⁣

Think professional headshot, not selfie. If you’re a PA-S or PA-C, use a picture of you in your white coat. If you have friend with a nice camera (or portrait mode), this is the perfect excuse to get dolled up and stand in front of a plain backdrop or some greenery. ⁣

𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐀 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐅 𝐁𝐈𝐎 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍⁣

This section should summarize who you are and provide a snapshot of you as a future or current provider. Highlight your education, passions, and experiences. I recommend writing it in third person. For example, “____ is a…”⁣

𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒, 𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐄𝐒/𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒⁣

Don’t forget BLS, ACLS, PALS, and volunteer experiences. As soon as you become certified and/or get your state licensure, be sure to update this information.⁣

𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓⁣

Connect with your classmates, professors, and providers in your community. The more connections, the better when it comes to Linkedin.⁣

𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐁𝐄 𝐀𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐃 𝐀 𝐌𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐆𝐄⁣

For those of you who are struggling to find a job, this one's for you. If you have a specific specialty in mind, search “general surgeon Columbus Ohio” etc.. Connect with the provider and send them a brief message. Mention that you are a PA-C looking for opportunities for employment in their area. Discuss related experiences or rotations. Express your interest in discussing any needs that they may have. ⁣

𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍 𝐔𝐏 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐉𝐎𝐁 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓𝐒 ⁣

Enter the title of the job and your desired location. Sign up for alerts so that you never miss out on an opportunity.⁣

What Linkedin tips do you have?
